Youth Combat and Safety First

Things that the Youth Combat program provides:

    • Allows children to interact with other children in the SCA.

    • Helps children stay healthy and active.

    • Teaches children the many styles of fighting/defence.

    • And teaches children the knightly Code of Chivalry.

(Loyalty, Respect, Courtesy, Honesty, and Discipline.)

Youth Combat is divided into four age divisions ranging from 6 to 17 years of age andis open to both boys and girls.

All children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times to participate in the fighting.

Other than a few additional pieces of armor required for the different age divisions, a Youth Combat fighter basically needs a street hockey helmet, skate knee and elbow pads, and an athletic cup for boys, as well as a long-sleeved shirt, pants, and shoes. Additional gear and weapons are relatively cheap and easy to buy and/or make.

To read the rules and regulations for Youth Combat, you can find them in the Kingdom of Ansteorra Complete Participant’s Handbook starting on page 31.
